3 Questions to Ask Yourself When Navigating Uncertainty

We as human beings are being asked to adapt to changes never seen before in our lifetime.
Change is not a lineal process; it is a series of continual events that shape our lives. Creating awareness around how we respond to uncertainty is our stating point to knowing how to navigate it.
If you want to move more skillfully in navigating change, becoming aware of habits associated with your response check in with how you are thinking first.
But we have a problem…
The common reaction is to move into action without first analyzing our current thinking. You can take action all day long but if you haven’t adjusted the way you think about things first you are building on top of old way of thinking that may not serve your new reality. Hence why change doesn’t always stick for people.
FACT.
Most people are not realistic about the time it takes to change, nor do they stick with it long enough to realize a meaningful shift. This is true even for a change we want let alone a change that is forced upon us.
Since we are always practice something (conscious or unconscious), why not purposefully practice how to navigate uncertainty in a more skillful way. Here is how…
3 Questions to Ask Yourself When Navigating Uncertainty:
Am I resisting, flowing with or ignoring change in this moment?
Becoming of aware of where we are in the moment is the first step and opens up coming into the present moment – if we are honest with ourself.
Does my current way of thinking/acting send me in the direction I want to go?
Gentle reminder here, change is constant. Holding onto old habitual ways of thinking and being is self-limiting and over time can become very painful.
What state of mind can I access right now that will help me move forward in a constructive way?
Sometime the answer is right there and sometimes it’s not. Uncertainty by its very nature brings a quality of not knowing. Being with not knowing and opening to the answer over time is part of the process. Seeking certainty can block us from the unfolding process of being with not knowing.

Mindfulness practices are a way for us to purposefully practice a new of being with ourselves and change that over time establishes a new habit and therefore ability to respond with skill in uncertainty.
