Being on Purpose During Life’s Transitions

Purposefully navigating change

Life is full of change and transition

Some we look forward to & others are thrust upon us when we least expect it.

Despite the best well-established plans, there will be things we haven’t considered or planned for. During such times we may experience a sense of disappointment, loss, loneliness, confusion, or lack of purpose. Depending on how we view these times, and what tools we have in our toolbox, will determine our experience and how we navigate change.

One of the tools most helpful during this time is a connection to self.

We live in a culture that values looking outside for guidance and direction which robs us of the ability to tap into our own ability to creatively self-solve. I am constantly reminded of how the need to be certain and “know” is a driver in so many people’s lives (my own at times!) and a source of deep stress. An important contrast to note here is that when we are stressed, we are often not connected in a skillful way.

A theme that I regularly uncover with my clients is a desire for purposeful connection; this theme often conjures fear, excitement, and a sense of optimism. This way of being takes honesty, unlearning, visioning, relearning, and practice. It is here, in this place of permission that we explore a variety of perspectives and are willing to expand what we thought was possible. I have found this initial and critical step of self-connection to be the beginning of being on purpose.
